Let’s talk review games, profe!  ¡Basta! is a fantastic game to play when you have 5-10 minutes left in class, or you want to review some key concepts.  ¡Venga!  Let’s get into the details.

How to Play:

  1. Set Up:
Each player creates a table on their paper with a column for each category. Leave enough space to write words under each column.
  2. Choose a Letter:
One player silently recites the alphabet in their head, while another player says “¡BASTA!” (which means “Stop!”). The reciting player stops, and the letter they were on becomes the letter for the round.
  3. Fill the Categories:
All players write down a word for each category that starts with the chosen letter as quickly as they can. For example, if the letter is “M” and the categories are Animals, Colors, and Cities:
    • Animal: Mono
    • Color: Marrón
    • City: Madrid
  4. Shout “¡BASTA!”:
When a player finishes filling all the categories, they shout “¡BASTA!” and everyone else must stop writing, even if they’re not finished.
  5. Scoring:
    • Each unique word (not repeated by other players): 10 points.
    • Words repeated by other players: 5 points.
    • Empty or incorrect answers: 0 points.
  6. Start a New Round:
Pick a new letter and repeat the steps above. Keep track of scores as you go.
  7. Winning:
After a set number of rounds, the player with the most points wins!

It’s as easy as that, profe!  You’ve got a stellar vocabulary review game, and a way to spend the last few minutes of class.
