¡Hola, profe! Are you looking for some creative and effective Spanish homework ideas for your students? As teachers, we know that engaging with homework outside the classroom is crucial. Homework not only reinforces language skills, it also fosters a love for learning. In this post we will cover some easy Spanish homework solutions. I can’t promise they will make your students excited about practicing Spanish outside of school, ¡pero se puede intentar!
Ideas for Spanish Assignments
Online Language Practice
When it comes to providing opportunities for interactive language practice, platforms like Duolingo, Mango Languages, and Quizlet are excellent resources for students to enhance their language skills. Estos recursos digitales offer a fun and engaging way for students to practice vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills. ¿Qué tal invitar a tus estudiantes a explorar estas plataformas para reforzar lo aprendido en clase?
- Duolingo
Duolingo is a popular, gamified language learning app that makes Spanish homework enjoyable. Its short lessons and interactive activities help students build vocabulary and grammar skills in an engaging way. Duolingo’s adaptive learning algorithm ensures that students practice what they need the most, making it an excellent supplement to classroom learning. - Mango Languages
Mango Languages offers comprehensive language courses with practical, real-world conversations. It focuses on cultural context, which enriches students’ understanding and appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures. With its user-friendly interface and mobile accessibility, students can practice their Spanish assignments from anywhere. - Quizlet*
Quizlet provides versatile study tools such as flashcards, quizzes, and games. Teachers can create customized Spanish language worksheets and sets for students to review vocabulary and grammar concepts. Quizlet’s collaborative features allow students to share their sets and challenge each other, promoting peer learning.
*Quizlet is not a perfect resource, and their data policies don’t comply with a lot of districts’ rules. Mango Languages offers flashcards as well, and I just saw Apple is coming out with a flash card tool for the iphone. Neither are exactly the same as Quizlet, but it’s always worth checking out something new.

Finish Work From Class
Encouraging students to review and complete unfinished classwork as part of their homework routine can help solidify their understanding of the material y fortalecer sus habilidades en español. Ensuring that students have the necessary resources to finish their classwork at home is definitely crucial. Providing access to digital copies of texts and readers can ensure task completion and easy review of materials between classes.
Reading
Providing students with engaging texts and readers in Spanish can ignite their interest in reading and expand their language comprehension skills. Choose materials that are culturally relevant and age-appropriate to keep students motivated and eager. Encourage your students to choose a book, a magazine, or even an online article in Spanish to read.
I know what you’re thinking: “Kathryn, how do I make this accessible?” I’ve got you, profe. Short stories, articles, and excerpts from Spanish literature can enhance their reading skills and cultural knowledge. Provide students with a list of recommended titles that match their reading level (Profe Zulita has a ton of suggestions on her Instagram), and suggest that they challenge themselves with more advanced materials. Students who read in Spanish not only improve their vocabulary and comprehension skills, but are also exposed to the cultural richness of Spanish-speaking countries. We all know that understanding Spanish culture brings the language to life, creating deeper learning.
Students' Resources at Home
It’s essential to consider what resources and support systems your students have at home to complete their Spanish assignments comfortably. Some may have access to a computer and internet, while others might rely on physical books and worksheets. What does this mean for us, profe? Keep things accessible. Offer a variety of resources, such as printable Spanish language worksheets and offline assignments, to accommodate different situations. Encourage parents to engage with their children’s homework in Spanish to reinforce learning.
A Note About Worksheets
While Spanish language worksheets are useful for practicing specific grammar or vocabulary, they are not always the best option for Spanish homework. Worksheets often focus on rote memorization and isolated skills rather than promoting active language use and real-life communication. Homework in Spanish class should ideally involve more interactive and immersive activities such as those mentioned in this article. These Spanish assignments are more effective in helping students develop fluency and confidence. Simply put, while Spanish language worksheets have their place, they should be complemented with more dynamic and engaging forms of Spanish homework to ensure comprehensive language learning.
Easy Solution for Spanish Homework
Practice Choice Board
One resource that I recommend for homework are these Free Independent Practice Choice Boards. This resource offers a variety of interactive and engaging activities that your students can complete independently. There are two boards available, one for input activities like listening and reading, and one for output activities like speaking and writing. Each board is broken into different amounts of time, and challenge levels, to make them easy to use for students of all levels. These boards are a great way to keep students engaged with Spanish language at home, especially over a break or holiday. These practice choice boards are my gift to you – just fill out the form below.

I teach homeschool students 1x or 2x a week so I need to assign Homework so they can get the time they need for their HS Credit (150 hours). I love the idea of providing a choices so students can practice things they like or need. I use Garbanzo, Señor Wooly, and Dreaming Spanish, so thanks for this and the ideas you provided.
¡Fenomenal! I worked with a homeschool student this past semester and he really wanted to improve his independent reading and writing, so he chose news articles each week (from NewsELA and Spanish language news sources), then wrote summaries. He had a solid foundation to start this task, so it was accessible for him and allowed him to practice new structures we saw in class.
Homework choice boards, please.
